Communication from Staffordshire Schools Crossing patrol.

Community Funded School Crossing Patrols

Most people know their school crossing patrol as their lollipop lady or man. They do a wonderful job day in, day out, and in all sorts of weathers. It’s a valuable service that is loved by the local community, children and families.

Due to unprecedented financial challenges, with a £35 million gap in budget, Staffordshire County Council is reluctantly considering proposals to no longer fund the school crossing patrol service after September 2019.

Instead, we’re asking communities and businesses now to think about if and how they could fund a local patrol in the future.
Under the current proposals, we would still employ the patrols and provide the training, management and the uniform and interested communities would work with schools to arrange funding.

We recognise that school crossing patrols are hugely valued by schools, parents and children. That’s why want to hear from you if you use a patrol, ideas on how posts could be funded in the future and whether there are other suggestions for improving travel to school, such as expanding walking buses.

We will be gathering views until December 31, 2018
