St Joseph's Catholic Primary School

Growing with Jesus

Inclusion and sen

At St. Joseph’s Primary School we believe that every child should be enabled to achieve their unique human potential. All of our pupils have a right to be valued, encouraged and accepted equally, regardless of ability, behaviour or family background. All staff, working in partnership with children, parents and the parish,  strive to ensure the best possible education for each child.  We provide a broad and balanced curriculum for all children. The National Curriculum is our starting point for planning that meets the specific needs of individuals and groups of children. Some children have barriers to learning that mean they have special educational need or disability and require provision that is additional to or different from others of the same age. Children may have special educational needs either throughout or at any time, during their time in school.

AIMS

  • That all children should reach their full potential and develop in a happy and relaxed way to become independent and confident.
  • To support pupils’ learning without making them feel different or inferior to their peers.
  • To monitor children’s progress through rigorous assessment and tracking.
  • To work in partnership with pupils, parents, governors, support services and outside agencies to provide support to meet the individual needs of the child.
  • To ensure that our information is up to date; that careful records are kept of the child to ensure that the targets are SMART; and that the child's achievements are being recognised.  These records will be relevant, informative and regularly updated.  All adults working with a child will be made aware of the targets set for that child and that they will all work together towards these targets.
  • To support teachers in ensuring provision for children with SEND.
  • To ensure targeted/special interventions are available and regularly evaluated.
  • To use individual support plans to meet the needs of all children on the SEND register.
  • To work in partnership with parents, sharing information on children’s progress and their individual needs, setting new targets and celebrating their success.
  • To meet the requirements of the Code of Practice 2014 (Updated January 2015).

Dyslexia

We are committed to the dyslexia friendly initiative and take into account the needs of the dyslexic learner. Teachers aim to provide a dyslexia friendly learning environment and suitable provision for the dyslexic learner within lessons. St. Joseph's Catholic Primary School was awarded Full Status Dyslexia Award in June 2019.

Intervention Menu

At St. Joseph's we offer many interventions to our children in order to close any gaps with their learning.

Examples of Interventions

Pupil Voice

What we say about our interventions and support at St. Joseph's Primary School:

Y5 Pupil- 'I struggled with writing realistic stories. Now I have more ideas to help me write.'

Y4 Pupil - ' I wasn’t sure about rounding and struggled with division.  I’m happy with both now. I like doing the maths group.'

Y2 Pupil- 'The group is good. I like reading now.'
